You can complete your bachelor degree requirements in three years. The focus of our English language bachelor of arts degree in business management is a combination of the theoretical and the practical in the context of international and intercultural management. Our curriculum has achieved superb results because of its focus on personalized intellectual growth, creative applications of e-learning and an extensive use of the case study method. Students are encouraged to develop broad global perspectives, and to think critically and creatively.

There is much flexibility in the foreign language requirement for our students. Our international students may take English, German or Polish. Polish students in this program may take either English or German. You may have already passed international exams (TOEFL, FCE, CAE, ZD, ZMP, DELF, and others) and could be granted an advanced standing, or exempted from initial testing, though an interview with a faculty member may be required.

In addition to the business management studies leading to a bachelor's degree, students are required to declare a specialization field during their second year of studies. The following is the general three-year curriculum for our students:

Specializations

Specialization in International Business (in English and Polish)

The graduates of this specialization are qualified to lead their own enterprise, or carry out managerial and control functions in business enterprises both with our European Union partners and internationally. Logistics specializations open many opportunities in segments of the national and international economy, such as industry, commerce, trade and transportation. The terminal learning objectives for this specialization are: application of information technology systems utilized in the management of a business enterprise; professional analysis of markets; coordination of international logistics; optimization of the volume of production and timely transportation management; designing a distribution system; use of integrated logistical systems; and management of stock to increase enterprise profitability.

Required Course for Second Year:

International Logistics and Trade – This course is an overview of the challenges of international logistics and trade in today’s emerging global economy. The course explores theories of international trade, alternative trade policy, covering a variety of aspects of international logistics for establishing and sustaining global operations. Issues addressed include the strategic and operational roles of logistics in the international arena; the role of shipping, air and other forms of international freight transportation in international logistics and their impact on world trade; international distribution and marketing channels; the logistics mix in an international context, as well as the management of import and export shipments including documentation requirements.

Required Courses for Third Year:

Intercultural Negotiation and Team Work – The course is divided into two parts. The first is an introduction to negotiation; approaches to negotiation; ethical rules in negotiation; skills necessary for negotiation; negotiating styles; verbal and nonverbal communication. Next, is an introduction to team work, role functions for specific types of projects and team leadership. Cultural values and thought paradigms are the basis for examining both and intercultural negotiation and issues related to international and intercultural teams in Western Europe; Eastern Europe; Central and South American countries; and Asian countries. The course provides knowledge and experience in the following areas: intercultural team building and management, intercultural communication and motivation, managing intercultural conflict, and the role of the manager in co-worker development, coaching, recruiting, and hiring, within an intercultural and international environment.

International Business Specialization Seminar –  Individualized course of study guided by a professor of the university college in the area of international business. The seminar will be focus on readings, research and discussions related to such topics as international trade agreements, international finance, and legal aspects of international management.

Specialization in Information Technology (IT) in Business (in English and Polish)

IT personnel constitute an elite professional group. This fact is substantiated by their high salaries and expectations of them. IT personnel with knowledge of a foreign language can gain an employment in the European Union, Canada and the United States. Poznan University College of Business and Foreign Languages delivers practical computer science knowledge and concrete applications of IT acumen utilized in business contexts. The terminal learning objectives for this specialization are: effective use of the Internet; administration of local networks; extensive knowledge of e-business; object programming; creating professional databases; familiarization with MS Windows and Linux; designing IT systems; and utilizing ready-made IT packages in support of management applications.

Required Course for Second Year:

Multimedia – Multimedia is the process of planning, instructional design, and development. This course is an introduction to multimedia and explores the use of different types of media components (text, digital imaging, sound, animation and video) to convey ideas and facilitate interaction delivered through a web site so vital to businesses in the global economy. This course has a theoretical and a practical component. Students practice with media creation/editing tools for creating websites, 2-D and 3-D graphics, sound, animation and video files. Students learn the following: design procedures and computer instructions to solve business problems; procedural programming; development of graphic user interfaces for the Web to work with events and objects; and how to create interactive computer applications, create user interfaces to display data, and apply object oriented programming concepts to application development.

Required Courses for Third Year:

Programming – Students learn object oriented programming techniques using the current software development tools and a .NET programming language. Students design procedures and write computer instructions to solve business problems, learn procedural programming, develop graphical user interfaces in Windows and work with events and objects. Additionally, the course introduces the following: design, code, test and debug programs using repetition and decision structures; pointers, functions, and other C data structures; and design elements for abstract data types and classes.

IT in Business Specialization Seminar –  Guided research and application of IT principles supervised by a professor of the university college in the area of IT. The seminar will concentrate on application of the functional skills in and manipulation of, such things as databases, multimedia and programming.

Specialization in the Psychology of Management (in English and Polish)

Graduates of this specialization are unquestionably valuable assets in large enterprises of today's global economy. This specialization seeks to have future managers focus on their own efficacy in motivating subordinates, creating positive and goal oriented environments, leading negotiations, and conducting job interviews, while being both analytical and creative. Numerous firms have already made a decision to hire specialists of psychology of management as part of being competitive in national, European and global economies. The terminal learning objectives of this specialization are: knowledge of the mechanisms of human behaviour; an ability to effectively employ methods and techniques of motivating and influencing people; techniques of evaluating people based on verbal and non-verbal communication; and knowledge of negotiation techniques.

Required Course for Second Year:

Psychology of Management – The psychology of management prepares students to apply psychological theory and practices to help business leaders meet their professional and personal potential. An examination of application of psychological principles and methods to problems commonly encountered in business and industry; the readings and lectures focus on the application of psychology to interpersonal relations and the working environment. The course includes topics such as group dynamics, motivation, mentor-protégé relationships, verbal and non-verbal communication, employee-employer relationships, interpersonal communications, counselling and techniques for selection and supervision of personnel.

Required Courses for Third Year:

Psychology of Consumer Behaviour – An understanding of how consumers think, feel, and decide is essential to the success of any business venture. This course provides an overview of psychological research on consumer’s perception, memory, affect, attitudes, and decision making, with a focus on the various methods by which consumer behaviour is investigated. Students will explore the issue of persuasion and managerial decision making related to consumer behaviour and how companies and organizations use psychology strategically every day.

Psychology of Management Specialization Seminar –  Guided research and application of IT principles supervised by a professor of the university college in the area of IT. The seminar will concentrate on application of the functional skills in and manipulation of, such things as databases, multimedia and programming.
